SONA


The third Monday of July is set up for the president of the Philippines to deliver a speech about all of his achievements. He instead focused on several issues, including the drug war, corruption, and federalism.
     The nature of the address does not only reflect on past promises. The SONA is highly significant for participatory democracy such as south Africa that is characterized by an open or transparent relationship between the government and the people. The President address the nation and informs us of the government work. He reports back to the nation on government’s successes, challenges and shortcomings in the previous year.
     Duterte said his concerns is more on human lives and not human rights. “Illegal drugs wasted away lives and ruined relationships”. Duterte also promised to restore environmental integrity of Boracay. He Said that protection of environment is very important. Duterte highlighted that the war from illegal drugs is far from over and will not be sidelined, instead, it will be as relentless and chilling. Duterte also said budget for Mindanao is being increase.
